Eden Camp – English visit

On Friday 12 July, 12AC went on an educational visit to Eden Camp, near Malton in North Yorkshire.

Eden Camp is a museum set in the buildings and grounds of an original World War Two Prisoner of War Camp.

The reason for visiting the museum is that members of the tutor group have been studying the novel “Blitzed” by Robert Swindells. Eden Camp features in the novel.

The visit went very well. The students, Mr. Cooper and Mrs. Pugh found the exhibits in the various old huts and around the camp to be very interesting. These exhibits gave the students a good understanding of what life was like for British military personnel and civilians, and enemy prisoners of war, during World War II.

Other huts provided information on what life was like during World War I and gave details of Britain’s role in various post-World War II conflicts.

The journey to and from Eden Camp was though some very beautiful North Yorkshire countryside.

All of us had an excellent day. Every studnt behaved impeccably and was a credit to their parents/carers.
